Number of Broadband Internet Subscriptions in Türkiye Exceeds 100.8 Million

The number of broadband internet subscriptions in Türkiye exceeded 100.8 million by the end of the second quarter of 2026, according to data from the Electronic Communications Market Report issued by the Turkish Information and Communications Technologies Authority, as presented by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.

The figure represents a significant increase compared with approximately 6 million subscriptions in 2008. Total subscriptions recorded annual growth of 3.6%, consisting of 21.2 million fixed broadband subscriptions and 79.7 million mobile subscriptions.

Fiber Leads Infrastructure Expansion

The number of fiber internet subscribers rose 22% year-on-year to 10.7 million. The number of subscribers to fiber-to-the-home services also grew 26.4%, from 7.6 million to 9.6 million subscriptions.

The fiber network itself expanded 13% over the year, reaching 720,000 kilometers, compared with 637,000 kilometers in the corresponding period of 2025. Meanwhile, the number of xDSL subscribers stood at approximately 8 million, while the number of cable internet subscribers reached nearly 1.5 million.

Mobile and 5G Indicators

The total number of mobile phone subscribers, including machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, reached 102.2 million in the second quarter, up 6% from 96.5 million in the same period of 2025. The number of actual users, excluding M2M subscriptions, stood at approximately 87 million.

The number of actual 5G users reached 44,268,946, while the number of 5G-compatible devices stood at approximately 29,777,164. Türkiye also recorded average monthly mobile phone usage of 468 minutes, the highest among the European countries included in the comparison, according to the minister’s statement.

What Is Changing in Practice?

The figures show that connectivity growth in Türkiye is not based solely on an increase in the number of subscriptions, but is accompanied by a gradual shift toward fiber and greater reliance on mobile and fifth-generation networks. Total broadband internet data traffic rose 16.5% to 26,217,290 terabytes, with mobile data traffic increasing 39.9% to approximately 5.6 million terabytes, compared with an 11.4% increase in fixed data traffic, which reached 20.6 million terabytes.

The number of electronic communications operators also reached 418, with 766 licenses or authorizations granted to them, while sector investment during the second quarter rose 86.9% year-on-year to 55.6 billion Turkish liras. These indicators describe the volume of subscriptions, data traffic, and investment, but do not by themselves clarify service quality, the distribution of connection speeds, or gaps between regions.

The second quarter also recorded approximately 2.8 million mobile number portability transactions, bringing the total number of ported numbers through June 30 to approximately 214.1 million. The number of fixed-line telephone subscribers reached 8.13 million, with a penetration rate of approximately 9.4%.
