World Project Launches Identity Verification Suite Customised for Banks and Financial Institutions

The World platform, co-founded by Sam Altman and Alex Blania, has launched the World ID suite specifically designed for the banking sector and financial institutions. The new system was unveiled by Alex Blania during the Money20/20 conference held in Las Vegas, aiming to enable institutions to verify the identity of real individuals during their interactions with customers, employees, and AI agents.

The new suite integrates three core technologies previously developed by the platform: the World ID application, World ID for Agents, and World ID for Zoom. The system relies on three cryptographic verification pillars, including Proof of Human to ensure that the user is a real and unique person, Proof of Presence to verify that the transaction is executed in real-time, and Proof of Attributes, which allows the verification of specific data such as age or nationality without sharing any additional personal details.

What changes practically for financial institutions?

Banks and financial institutions will be able to integrate these mechanisms into sensitive operations requiring high security, such as opening new accounts, transferring large amounts of money, and account recovery procedures. The company affirms that this approach allows for the verification of credentials and data without the need to collect and store additional personal information about users.

In a related context, the platform announced the general availability of the World ID for Zoom feature through the Zoom Marketplace for enterprise customers. This feature allows the comparison of a user's verified digital facial signature with live video footage during a meeting, displaying an official Human Badge to participants without sharing any personal data with the Zoom platform. The suite also includes the AgentKit system (currently in the trial phase) to enable users to delegate specific tasks to AI agents while proving that there are real, verified humans behind them.

Adoption context and current challenges

  • The platform indicated the presence of prominent names as initial design partners, such as Bain Capital, Pantera Capital, and VanEck Funds, without disclosing the names of the banks that have actually begun using the system.
  • The company has not yet disclosed details regarding the pricing of the new banking services suite.
  • This step comes amid escalating risks of AI-enhanced fraud, with Deloitte estimates projecting that losses resulting from these attacks in the United States will rise from $12.3 billion in 2023 to reach $40 billion by 2027.
