Anthropic has announced the launch of its new application designed to act as an AI agent named Claude Duet, specifically built to assist professionals and small business owners in tracking and managing their daily tasks automatically.
The application is powered by the company's advanced Claude Opus 5.5 model and is being rolled out in its initial phase via a waitlist for Pro and Max subscribers in the United States.
Operational Mechanism and Functional Capabilities
Claude Duet is distinguished by its ability to intervene and operate without waiting for a new conversation to be initiated each time. It evaluates information from linked applications to prepare a concise morning business brief, highlighting urgent topics such as messages awaiting a response or upcoming meetings. Users can assign tasks via text or voice messages and review documents, presentations, and spreadsheets within the same conversation.
The agent's functions include scheduling meetings, searching for unpaid invoices and preparing reminders for them, preparing contracts for sending, and building dashboards that aggregate business data. The system supports over 6,000 connectors and integrations, including popular services such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Shopify, and HubSpot.
Technical Autonomy and Cloud Operation
The agent operates within a cloud environment that possesses its own browser, meaning it does not tie up the user's computer or phone while open; it sends notifications when a task is completed or when a decision is required. It does not monitor linked accounts continuously in real-time, but rather performs checks every few hours.
Security Restrictions and Permissions
Certain operations such as sending messages, making payments, signing documents, or deleting content require explicit user approval, as the agent displays the proposed step first. Operations related to securities trading and transferring funds between accounts are strictly prohibited, regardless of user approval.
Availability and Usage Limits
Duet is available as a standalone application on iOS and Android, and via the claude.ai platform for computers under Pro and Max plans during the current preview period, with background checks and executed tasks deducted from the subscription's available usage limits. Anthropic warns that the application is in its early stages and may misinterpret correspondence or assess the urgency of issues incorrectly.
