Egyptian Government Recommendation to Double the Capacity of the Economic Landline Internet Bundle to 100 GB at the Same Price

After only about five months of its introduction to the Egyptian market, the 50 GB economic landline internet bundle is back in the spotlight following a recommendation by Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, targeting to double its capacity to 100 GB while maintaining the current price without any increase.

This recommendation came during the closing session of the "Egypt 2026" forum, as part of a package of recommendations announced by the Prime Minister, opening the door for an anticipated adjustment in the structure of low-cost fixed internet bundles in the local market.

Chronology of the 50 GB Bundle

The origins of this bundle go back to May 6, 2026, when the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) officially announced directing telecom companies operating in Egypt to provide new fixed and mobile internet bundles, aiming to support digital inclusion and provide lower-cost alternatives for users.

At that time, Telecom Egypt (WE) and other companies made the landline internet bundle available at a price of 150 pounds per month before calculating the value-added tax, instead of the lowest previously available bundle which was priced at 210 pounds. The speed of the current economic bundle reaches about 30 megabits per second, and its price rises to about 171 pounds after adding the 14% value-added tax.

What Changes Practically?

If the Prime Minister's recommendation is fully implemented without a change in price, subscribers to this bundle will get 100 GB per month for the same financial value, which represents:

  • Doubling the current capacity by 100%.
  • Halving the actual cost per consumed gigabyte.
  • A rapid adjustment to the economic bundle introduced by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority a few months ago.

Market Size and Beneficiaries

So far, official data issued by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority or the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology does not include detailed figures on the number of actual subscribers to the 50 GB bundle specifically. In contrast, the latest data from the Ministry of Communications show that total fixed broadband internet subscriptions in Egypt reached about 12.68 million subscriptions by the end of June 2026, recording an annual growth rate of about 4.1% compared to the same period of the previous year.

This figure reflects the total size of the fixed internet market whose structure could be affected by changes in the price and capacity structure, with actual implementation remaining contingent on the regulatory and technical controls and procedures to be taken by the concerned authorities and fixed internet companies in the coming period.
