Simplismart, a Bangalore-based AI software startup, has announced the closing of a $14 million Series B funding round. The round saw notable participation from Nvidia, alongside other investors such as Accel, Shastra VC, Micromax, and Dallas Venture Capital, which led the investment, bringing the startup's market valuation to approximately $100 million.
What does Simplismart offer?
Simplismart's software acts as an intermediary between AI models and computing infrastructure, automating deployment and management processes to ensure models run at optimal performance. Instead of relying on complex manual configurations, the platform allows companies to dynamically balance speed, cost, and performance requirements, helping to reduce over-reliance on expensive Graphics Processing Units (GPUs).
The company's services include tools for fine-tuning models, automatic scaling of computing resources based on demand, and performance monitoring. The technology has proven effective in practical use cases, having helped the AI video production platform InVideo reduce its GPU operating costs by 56%.
Why does this news matter?
This investment represents a technical paradox; Nvidia, the dominant provider of AI chips, is supporting software aimed at reducing the number of chips required to run certain workloads. However, the company's founder and CEO, Amritanshu Jain, believes that improving inference efficiency enhances the long-term appeal of Nvidia's hardware and encourages the adoption of AI applications on a wider scale.
Simplismart plans to use the new funding to expand its presence in the US market, which currently accounts for more than half of its revenue, in addition to strengthening its team and developing its proprietary inference software. This move comes amid intense competition in the inference software market, where the company competes with solutions offered by major cloud computing providers such as Amazon (AWS), Google, and Microsoft.
