NoorNation, an Egyptian climate-tech startup, announced the closing of a $1.05 million seed funding round. The round saw participation from Linah Farms agricultural group, Catalyst Fund, and the Saudi company KBW Ventures.
Strategic Shift in Partnerships
This investment represents a qualitative development in the relationship between NoorNation and Linah Farms, as the latter transitioned from a commercial client to a strategic investor. The two parties have previously collaborated on implementing renewable energy projects, including solar irrigation systems in Bahariya Oasis, a solar power plant at Sultan Gardens Resort in Sharm El Sheikh, and energy solutions at an agricultural school affiliated with the group.
Technical Solutions for Decentralized Infrastructure
Founded in 2021 by Raji Ramadan and Mohamed Khaled, NoorNation focuses on developing decentralized energy and water infrastructure. The company's flagship product is LifeBox, an integrated solar-powered system that provides electricity and water in areas not connected to traditional utility grids.
What Changes in Practice?
The company intends to use the funding to scale its "Pay-as-you-go" model for solar irrigation, targeting Egyptian farmers to reduce their reliance on costly diesel pumps. Announced figures confirm the feasibility of these solutions, as solar irrigation systems at Linah Farms' farms contributed to savings exceeding 3 million Egyptian pounds in diesel costs, while the solar power plant at Sultan Gardens Resort reduced electricity costs by more than 2.2 million Egyptian pounds.
Future Expansion Plans
The two companies announced an agreement to implement five additional solar power plants with a total capacity of 1.13 MWp in the Bahariya Oasis and West Minya regions, raising the total capacity of projects implemented for Linah Farms to 1.71 MWp, reflecting the growing trend toward adopting decentralized clean energy solutions in the Egyptian agricultural sector.
