The popular video communication app Zoom and a set of core Microsoft apps have received official updates to provide full support for Apple's anticipated iPhone Duo device, allowing users to make the most of the large internal screen and the unique features offered by the device.
What has changed with the new updates?
The new updates included the Zoom app, in addition to four main applications from the Microsoft suite: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote. Thanks to these updates, Zoom users on the large internal screen can now see shared content, such as the organizer's desktop and other participants in a video call, at the same time and without overlap.
Regarding Microsoft applications, the Outlook app had already received support since the device's launch, while the Microsoft Teams app is still awaiting the appropriate update to fully support the dual screen.
How applications work and the technical difference
App compatibility relies on the software development kit used to build them:
- Apps built using the iOS 27.1 SDK or later: Characterized by full support for the iPhone Duo screen, as the apps stretch to completely fill both the external and internal screens, with toolbars and tab bars appearing vertically below the status bar.
- Apps built using the iOS 26 SDK or earlier: They work on the device but appear restricted to the middle of the internal screen, leaving wide empty spaces around them.
How to identify supporting apps
To make it easier to distinguish compatible apps on the App Store, applications specifically optimized for the device appear with a promotional tag bearing a custom phrase for the iPhone Duo (Made for iPhone Duo), helping users know which apps make optimal use of foldable device capabilities.
