Keyence Launches KV Intelligence AI Agent for Programming Industrial PLCs

Keyence has announced the launch of an AI agent dedicated to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) under the name "KV Intelligence," to be released on November 16, 2026. This new system works alongside the company's programming support software, "KV STUDIO," leveraging generative AI technologies to simplify program creation tasks, detect and correct errors, and accelerate troubleshooting processes related to industrial automation systems.

The new system supports Central Processing Units (CPUs) belonging to the "KV-X" controller series, specifically models KV-X550, KV-X530, KV-X520, and KV-X500. The system aims to address chronic challenges in the industrial automation sector, which include the difficulty of maintaining legacy programs containing errors and the shortage of specialized technical expertise, which burdens engineers and leads to a decline in operational efficiency.

What does the KV Intelligence AI agent offer?

The new system contains three main functions specifically designed to improve the controller maintenance experience:

  • Deep Debug: The system analyzes sensor signals associated with current and previous program logs, detecting complex errors with extreme precision, such as discrepancies in counting times or output on/off durations, while accurately identifying fault locations.
  • Natural Language Ladder and Structured Text (ST) Program Creation: The system allows users to write commands in simple language, such as "when the trace moves to the specified position, wait until operation is complete," so that the AI can generate the appropriate programming code compatible with Keyence's sensor connection manual.
  • Program Structure Output in HTML Format: Users can export controller program inputs and outputs, process flowcharts, and individual module information in HTML format to prepare comprehensive reports that contribute to facilitating project handover processes to various technical teams.

Why does this development matter in the industrial automation sector?

Factories and production facilities face real challenges due to the shortage of qualified technical personnel and the high technical complexity of traditional industrial control systems. Adopting AI in environments like "KV Intelligence" allows engineers with limited experience to handle emergencies and debug software errors more quickly, reducing downtime on production lines and significantly increasing operational maintenance efficiency.
