Aníbal Alexander Cañellón Aguirre, accused of developing the Ploutus malware, appeared before a U.S. court after being charged with participating in “jackpotting” attacks targeting ATMs. Court documents say the attacks stole more than $5.4 million through 63 operations targeting banks, in addition to 54 operations against credit unions and further attempts.
Sources told Reuters that Saif al-Din Khader, known as Rey and linked to the ShinyHunters group, was arrested in Jordan and is helping the FBI and international agencies identify other members. The arrest follows the detention of a suspect in the Netherlands and signs of disruption within the group’s structure, despite its continued activity through a new leak site.
