The startup R3 Lithium acquired the Covington facility in Georgia, formerly operated by Ascend Elements, and began operating it to produce lithium carbonate from spent batteries and scrap. The company raised $15 million in Series A funding and says it has future purchase agreements worth more than $1 billion.
