Bitdefender researchers discovered the Midnight Mimosa campaign, which embeds malware in the firmware of low-cost Android phones, enabling silent app installation, ad fraud, and the conversion of devices into residential proxies. The campaign affected thousands of devices in more than 150 countries, while the source of the supply-chain tampering remains unresolved.
