BMW said that its new electric iX3 received more than 100,000 orders in Europe within a year of its launch, equivalent to about one-third of its electric-vehicle orders. These figures remain orders rather than final sales, while the company also points to strong initial demand in China.
BMW is preparing to launch the electric iX5 with a usable battery capacity of 144 kWh in the United States and 141 kWh in Europe—the largest battery in a BMW electric vehicle to date. Although official range figures have not been announced, the vehicle could become one of the longest-range electric vehicles on the market, with the clear trade-off of a weight approaching three tonnes.
