JetBrains explains that scans performed by Microsoft Defender were adding tens of seconds to the first launch of Rider and ReSharper after ReSharper moved to an out-of-process architecture. In cooperation with Microsoft, Defender was improved, and JetBrains also released an open-source tool to measure the impact of scanning on development tools.
JetBrains has launched the first early access build of Rider 2026.3, adding nested bracket highlighting, data breakpoint configuration from the editor, and code completion filters, along with improvements for game developers and TUnit test coverage.
JetBrains tested AI agents on 15 tasks for refactoring C# code and found that making specialized Rider skills available reduced the median task time from 157.9 to 26.6 seconds, while also reducing tool calls and cost. The feature is available automatically in Rider 2026.2.1 through the built-in refactoring-code skill.
