JetBrains explains that support for WSL in IntelliJ IDEA, WebStorm, and PhpStorm is moving to a Native mode based on the IJent agent, rather than relying on the 9P layer or the Remote Development entry point as the primary option. The company says testing showed clear improvements when opening large projects and reading files, while Remote Development remains available but is no longer the recommended path.
JetBrains announced that WebStorm 2026.2.2 provides stable support for the new Go-based TypeScript 7 engine, with improvements in coding assistance speed for Angular and React projects without requiring project migration or a change to the TypeScript version used in the infrastructure.
JetBrains has added support for the Agent Client Protocol to WebStorm, enabling developers to use multiple AI agents from within the same development environment, including agents associated with their existing subscriptions. The protocol also enables connecting custom agents and controlling the infrastructure and where data is processed.
