Experiments by Anthropic’s Frontier Red Team indicate that small AI models may be able within months to run themselves and spread among commercial Internet of Things devices without relying on a data center. There is not yet a complete malicious replicator, but the models are improving at carrying out the sequence of steps needed for an attack.
