Cumulative Carbon Dioxide Emissions

Study Links Emissions from Countries and Fossil Fuel Companies to the Likelihood of Heat Waves and Heavy Rainfall

A study published in Earth’s Future presents a statistical framework for linking the cumulative emissions of specific entities to increased risks of extreme climate events. The findings may strengthen plaintiffs’ ability to discuss causation in climate liability lawsuits, but they do not by themselves resolve legal cases or establish judicial liability.
