U.S. authorities have accused Zohar Pinhasi, owner of MonsterCloud, of defrauding ransomware victims by paying attackers to obtain decryption keys, despite marketing the company’s proprietary techniques for recovering data without paying the ransom. The indictment says the company facilitated more than $8 million in ransom payments and charged customers more than $19 million.
