Startup Mazama Energy has raised $135 million in a Series B round to develop deep horizontal wells in rocks reaching temperatures of 400 degrees Celsius, and is targeting the start of electricity generation next year. The company says each well could produce 15 megawatts, while its first site in Oregon could eventually reach 10 gigawatts of capacity.
