Meta announced the donation of 15,000 free Ray-Ban Meta glasses to Vision Ireland, Ireland’s national charity for vision loss. According to the company, this number is enough to provide glasses to every blind or visually impaired adult supported by the organization, as part of a program intended to provide artificial intelligence tools that help beneficiaries perform everyday tasks with greater independence.
The glasses will enable users to read text, including signs and documents, recognize objects, and access information about the surrounding world using voice commands. The glasses also support other functions, such as listening to music, live translation, and making hands-free calls. Meta is developing the glasses in collaboration with the European company EssilorLuxottica.
Beneficiary Registration and Distribution Process
Eligible blind and visually impaired people can register their interest in the program through the website meta.vi.ie or via the dedicated number +353 1 882 1910. Vision Ireland will carry out the distribution in stages, beginning with applications, assessment, eligibility verification, and selection, followed by in-person training and support.
The program follows a pilot event for AI glasses hosted by Vision Ireland and Meta Ireland earlier in the year. Members of the organization and representatives of the blind and visually impaired community received practical training and also took part in discussions during which they provided feedback on their experience using the glasses.
Training and Support After Delivery
Each pair of glasses will include access to training funded by Meta, intended to help beneficiaries use the device effectively. The training focuses on recognizing objects, reading text, and managing everyday tasks using voice alone.
Vision Ireland will hold in-person events across Ireland to deliver the glasses and provide practical guidance from trained staff, while also giving participants the opportunity to connect with other beneficiaries. The organization’s help desk will also provide support to answer follow-up questions after the training ends.

Ireland is home to Meta’s international headquarters and one of its largest centers outside the United States. The company has several sites in the country, including its Reality Labs facility in Cork, which has contributed to the development of display solutions for AI- and augmented-reality-enabled wearable devices.
