During the eighty-first United Nations General Assembly, Amazon presented its plans and progress across three interconnected areas: expanding connectivity through satellites, developing tools for responsible artificial intelligence, and building computing infrastructure with greater water and energy efficiency.
Amazon Leo Nears 400 Satellites
Amazon began the full deployment of the Amazon Leo constellation in April 2025, and announced that it had completed 14 launch missions and had nearly 400 satellites in low Earth orbit. The company has also secured more than 100 confirmed launches through four providers.
The service aims to provide fast, reliable internet connectivity for everyday uses, such as video calls, telehealth, and online work and education, particularly in areas that are difficult or expensive to reach through traditional infrastructure. The partner network includes more than 20 organizations, including Delta Air Lines, which will provide connectivity to aircraft, and AT&T, which became the first major U.S. telecommunications company to make Amazon Leo satellite broadband available to its business customers.
The announced partnerships also extend to Herotel in South Africa, NBN Co in Australia, and DIRECTV in Latin America. According to Amazon, it has applied to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to operate more than 5,100 additional satellites for direct-to-device connectivity, including mobile phones, with deployment expected to begin as early as 2028.
AI Governance Moves Into Agentic Workflows
Amazon said that Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Bedrock Guardrails provide tools for building generative AI applications with safety and governance features, including content filtering, logic-based automated reasoning checks, and data protection.
As AI systems become more autonomous, the company pointed to new capabilities that enable organizations to determine what agents can access and execute, evaluate their actions in real time, and block risks such as prompt injection before they reach downstream systems. Amazon also renewed its support for risk-based regulatory frameworks and noted that it signed advanced AI safety commitments with 15 other companies during the Seoul Summit.

The announced message combines infrastructure expansion with a promise to manage it responsibly. The company’s carbon-free energy portfolio includes more than 712 projects in 30 countries, with a total capacity of 42 gigawatts, alongside investments in nuclear power, advanced geothermal energy, and long-duration energy storage. Amazon affirms its commitment to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
