Google officially announced the new Googlebook category, in an attempt to move Chromebook devices into the premium laptop market by integrating ChromeOS and Android with Gemini artificial-intelligence capabilities. The first batch includes five computers from Acer, ASUS, HP, Dell, and Lenovo, with prices starting at $900 and reaching $1,300.
Five Models with Similar Specifications
The devices use Intel Core Ultra Series 3 or Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processors, with neural processing units offering at least 45 trillion operations per second for artificial-intelligence tasks. The models share 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage, along with touchscreen displays, backlit keyboards, and haptic touchpads.

The devices use aluminum, magnesium-alloy, or carbon-fiber chassis. They also include the Glowbar light strip, which displays charging status and interacts with Gemini use.
Gemini and Android Integration
Google integrates Gemini directly into the operating system. The Magic Pointer feature enables the assistant by moving the mouse pointer to analyze the content displayed on the screen, while Rambler turns natural speech, including hesitation and errors, into notes, task lists, or structured text. Create My Widget also allows users to create desktop widgets by describing them in natural language.
Googlebook connects to Android phones by transferring settings, passwords, Wi-Fi networks, and messages during setup. Continue On transfers supported tasks between the phone and computer, while Cast My Apps displays Android applications in desktop windows, with access to the phone's photos and files through the Files app.
What Changes in Practice?
Google positions Googlebook in direct competition with high-end Windows computers and MacBook, rather than limiting Chromebook's image to an educational or low-cost platform. It also targets developers through the preinstalled Antigravity platform and the Linux terminal interface, which supports tools such as Claude Code and Antigravity CLI.
For protection, the devices rely on Titan technologies and on-device malware protection, in addition to an isolated Linux environment that uses the pKVM virtual-machine monitor. Google promises feature updates and security patches for up to 10 years, but the source does not clarify whether the support period is standardized across all models or markets.
Availability and Offers
Initial preorders began through the Google Store, Best Buy stores, and some selected retailers. Sales begin in the United States on October 4, 2026, followed by Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia on October 5, with no announced date for other markets.
For a limited time, purchase offers include a 12-month subscription to Google AI Pro with 5TB of cloud storage, along with limited subscriptions to YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop, CapCut, Luminar, and GeForce NOW.
