Kia became the fastest-growing major car brand in Europe during the first eight months of 2026, driven by strong performance from its electric vehicles and the expansion of its lineup across multiple price and size segments.
According to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), Kia recorded approximately 377,078 new passenger cars between January and August 2026, an increase of 9% compared with the same period of the previous year. This performance exceeded the growth of the automotive market in the European Union, the European Free Trade Association, and the United Kingdom, which reached 5.8% during the same period.
Growing Faster Than the Market
Kia’s share of the European passenger-car market reached 4.1%, placing it ninth among brands. The strongest momentum was in electric vehicles, whose registrations jumped 58% year over year, giving the brand a 4.8% share of the European electric-vehicle market and placing it seventh.
Increases in key markets included France, where Kia registrations rose 120%, Germany by 112%, the United Kingdom by 66%, Spain by 60%, and Italy by 41%.
An Electric Lineup Extending from Compact Cars to Large Vehicles
The EV3 remained among Kia’s most popular electric vehicles, while the newer EV2, EV4, and EV5 models helped support growth. The current lineup includes the EV2, EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6, and EV9, in addition to the PV5 commercial van.
Kia launched the low-cost compact EV2 earlier in 2026, with a starting price of 26,600 euros in Germany and 22,245 British pounds in the United Kingdom. The EV2 joins the EV4 as the second fully electric model to be manufactured at Kia’s plant in Slovakia.
Why Does This News Matter?
The figures show that expanding the electric lineup across different segments may have given Kia the ability to grow faster than the European market as a whole, rather than relying on a single model. However, the data presented measure registrations through August and do not separate each model’s contribution or the impact of local incentives and policies in the various markets, so they are not sufficient on their own to assess the sustainability of this performance.
Outside Europe, the EV3 is currently available in the United States, where Kia sold slightly more than 500 units during its first full month of sales. Kia does not plan to launch the EV2 in the U.S. market, highlighting differences in model strategy between regions.
