The market for Android-based handheld gaming devices has recently seen the emergence of a new category featuring dual screens, such as the Retroid Pocket Duo and AYN Thor. To enhance the user experience on these devices, an independent developer known as "Endika" has launched a new user interface (Launcher) called Blip, which is specifically designed to handle the challenges of dual-display setups.
What does the Blip interface offer?
The interface is characterized by its ability to intelligently split the screen; for games that require two screens, the interface distributes the display naturally. In the case of games that run on a single screen, the interface can utilize the second screen to display additional information such as instruction manuals, game artwork, or technical data, adding a professional touch to the gaming experience.
Technical features and platform integration
The interface is not limited to aesthetics; it also includes integration with important community platforms:
- RetroAchievements: To support the achievement system in classic games.
- RomM: To organize and manage the library of game files (ROMs) autonomously.
- Customization: The interface provides nine different themes, where the changes are not limited to colors but also include fonts, sounds, and icon shapes to suit the device model.
It should be noted that accessing certain features such as RetroAchievements and RomM support requires a one-time fee.
What changes practically for users?
The developer is currently working on the Blip Cloud feature, a cloud service aimed at synchronizing game save files between multiple devices, while providing 100 MB of free storage for users. This feature is still in the private beta testing stage.
The interface is compatible with devices from companies such as AYN, Retroid, AYANEO, and Anbernic, in addition to phones and tablets running Android 12 or later. The interface supports nine global languages and is currently available for download via the Google Play Store.
