Developments in Combat Drone Systems
The "Best International Military Drone Team Competition" (BIMDTC-2026), organized by the Turkish Land Forces Command, featured a demonstration of advanced technologies presented by DASAL, a subsidiary of Altınay Savunma Teknolojileri. The presentations focused on enhancing autonomy, swarm algorithms, and the integration of multiple platforms in military operational environments.
The "Angel Mode" and Self-Protection
The company provided a live demonstration of the "Angel Mode" system, where a swarm of 5 drones was used to provide perimeter protection for a team leader. In this mode, the drones operate in a 360-degree circular formation autonomously, ensuring continuous monitoring of the surroundings and early detection of asymmetric threats.
The company also demonstrated the swarm's ability to transition from reconnaissance to attack phases autonomously, as a group of 3 drones executed "tactical coverage" (visual deception) operations and engaged detected targets through centralized or distributed coordination.
Platform Integration and Rapid Deployment
To enhance operational range, DASAL showcased the concept of launching drones from airborne platforms. The MİKON drone was integrated into the FALCON C15 platform, where it is launched during flight to complete its mission independently, demonstrating the flexibility of mechanical and technical integration between different classes of drones.
The company also unveiled the "Beehive" (Arı Kovanı) system, an emergency response system concealed within a structure resembling a traditional guard booth. This system protects drones from external factors while maintaining 24/7 readiness for takeoff, reducing human response time in protecting sensitive facilities and border outposts.
Why This News Matters
These innovations represent a shift in how field operations are managed by reducing reliance on direct human intervention in dangerous missions. The transition toward autonomous swarms that can coordinate among themselves to execute protection and attack missions changes the rules of engagement. These technologies allow for immediate response to multiple threats while ensuring the safety of personnel, representing an accelerating technical trend in modern defense industries.
