Users of second and third-generation Siri Remote controllers can now track their lost locations via the Find My app, thanks to the new iOS 27.2 and tvOS 27.2 software updates.
Previously, although an option to locate the remote via iPhone has been available since iOS 17, these devices did not appear within the device list in the Find My app. Users had to rely on the "Apple TV Remote" widget located in the Control Center, a method many considered less convenient and clear. Now, supported controllers will appear alongside other Apple devices in the app, providing a smoother experience for iOS and macOS users.
What changes in practice?
It is important to note the difference in technical capabilities between different generations of controllers; while the new update allows seeing the location of older controllers on the map, they lack the advanced features available in the upcoming Apple TV 4K (fourth generation) remote control.
- Second and third-generation devices: Only allow seeing the approximate geographic location on the map via the Find My app, but do not support playing alert sounds or precision finding.
- Fourth-generation devices (upcoming): Will support Precision Finding technology and include a built-in speaker, making them easier to find by pointing the phone towards them and playing an alert sound.
Activation Requirements
To activate this feature, ensure that iOS 27.2 is installed on iPhone devices and tvOS 27.2 is installed on Apple TV devices. The remote itself may need to wait for a firmware update sent wirelessly after the operating system update to appear fully and stably within the Find My app.
