Chinese company Vivo has announced the expansion of its flagship X500 smartphone series to global markets, following its initial release in China. This move includes three main models: Vivo X500, X500 Pro, and the top-tier X500 Pro Max. Notably, the company skipped the X400 naming convention and moved directly to X500, following the X300 series which achieved significant success earlier this year.
Performance and Displays: Leading in 2nm Architecture
Vivo positions itself at the forefront of the technical race by equipping the Pro and Pro Max models with the all-new MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro processors, which are the first smartphone processors to utilize 2nm architecture. The standard X500 model is powered by the Dimensity 9600M processor.
Regarding the display experience, the Pro and Pro Max models are equipped with BOE Q11 LTPO AMOLED screens with 2K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate, in sizes ranging from 6.36 inches to 6.85 inches, with a peak brightness of up to 4500 nits. The X500 model features a 6.59-inch AMOLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate.
A Breakthrough in Battery Capacity and Imaging Technologies
The series has seen a significant leap in battery capacities thanks to the use of high-density silicon-carbon technology, with capacities as follows:
- X500 Pro Max: 8000 mAh battery.
- X500: 7500 mAh battery.
- X500 Pro: 6510 mAh battery.
All models support 90W wired charging and 40W wireless charging, feature IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance standards, and run on OriginOS 7 based on Android 17.
In terms of photography, the cameras were developed in collaboration with Zeiss. The professional models rely on a 50-megapixel main sensor (Sony LYTIA L910) with Zeiss T* coating. The Pro Max model features a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens (Samsung ISOCELL HP0) with a 3-degree Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) system, while the Pro model uses a 64-megapixel telephoto lens with 1.5-degree stabilization. The devices also support 4K video recording at 240 frames per second, with the Pro Max model capable of recording 8K video.
What does this launch actually change?
The launch of the X500 series represents a technical shift in how companies address the two biggest challenges in flagship phones: energy efficiency and battery capacity. The use of MediaTek processors with 2nm architecture aims to deliver superior performance with significantly lower power consumption. Furthermore, relying on silicon-carbon technology has allowed Vivo to integrate massive batteries (up to 8000 mAh) into smartphone chassis without sacrificing the standard size, setting a new benchmark for battery life in the flagship category.
