The X platform has begun testing a new and unusual tactic to push users toward increasing engagement with their posts. A number of users have noticed the sudden appearance of a visual animation of an animated arm that briefly takes control of the post composition box within the app and points directly to the Promote button.
This change has appeared experimentally on specific accounts, including X Premium subscribers who have the promotion button visible in the creation interface. This move has sparked confusion and questions among users as to whether the platform is striving by all means to increase reliance on promoted posts, or if it is merely a joke related to the Halloween season, at a time when the company has not yet issued any official clarification.
Change Coincides with New Administrative Appointments
The appearance of this mysterious animation comes at the same time as the arrival of Peter Sellis as the new head of product at the company, succeeding Nikita Bier. This has led some users and analysts to link this bold and unconventional style to the background of the new management, which is known for publishing proactive, unconventional content. However, no official has confirmed a direct link between the appointment and the appearance of the animated arm.
Role of AI Assistant and User Controversy
For its part, the AI tool Grok interacted with user inquiries about this sudden display, confirming that the movement is not just a software glitch or an Easter egg, but a real experiment that a large number of users have been exposed to, without confirmation as to whether it is a long-term intended design or just a temporary celebration of the occasion.
Mystery still surrounds this software experiment, pending an official comment from the X platform to clarify the goals behind this controversial design.
