Apple announced the launch of the completely new generation of MacBook Pro computers, which comes equipped with the PROLED XDR screen based on dual-layer OLED technology (Tandem OLED), delivering unprecedented performance in mobile screens along with the integration of touch features for the first time in Mac devices.
The new MacBook Pro devices are available in 14-inch and 16-inch models, offering a peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits for both high dynamic range (HDR) and standard content, in addition to a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1, and a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, with broad support for P3 and Adobe RGB color gamuts to meet the needs of designers, photographers, and video editors.
Screen technologies and new touch interaction
The PROLED XDR screen delivers superior visual response and extreme accuracy thanks to an advanced and optimized display engine that controls the lighting of each pixel with precision down to fractions of a millisecond. The touch technology integrated directly into the display panel also allows users to interact directly and smoothly with screen content, such as manipulating 3D models and playing musical instruments directly on the screen with negligible delay.
In addition, the Dynamic Island concept transitions to Mac devices to serve as a hub for Spotlight search, live activities, and the integration of the AI-powered Siri assistant.
M5 Pro and M5 Max processors and superior performance
The new devices rely on Apple's latest and most powerful chips dedicated to professional computers; the M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, designed to accelerate complex artificial intelligence tasks and handle large language models with hundreds of billions of parameters locally on the device. The computers support unified memory up to 128 GB and ultra-fast storage capacities up to 16 TB.
Design, connectivity, and prices
The new design comes in a thinner and lighter version; the 14-inch model weighs about 3.1 pounds, while the 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds, with a battery life of up to 24 hours. Connectivity options include Thunderbolt 5 ports, an HDMI port, an SDXC card slot, a headphone jack, with support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
Prices for models equipped with the M5 Pro start at $2,899 for the 14-inch model and $3,399 for the 16-inch model, while prices for M5 Max models start at $4,499 and $4,799 respectively, with the device available for pre-order starting today and shipping to customers on November 6.
