Google is preparing to introduce radical changes to the user interface of its main application on the Android system, as an APK teardown of the beta version 17.72.13 for the 64-bit architecture version showed that the company is testing a brand-new tab named "You".
According to data available from code analysis and experimental interface pages, this new tab is planned to replace the current "Activity" tab located in the bottom bar of the application, which currently includes search history and AI mode history, in addition to saved items sections, collections, recent song searches, and Google Lens.
What will the new "You" tab offer?
Upon activating the new tab, the user's profile picture appears prominently at the top of the page alongside the email address and a drop-down icon providing quick access to the account switcher. The top right corner also includes the traditional gear icon for direct access to app settings, while retaining the sections for collections, saved items, and visual and voice search. Although search history and AI history are temporarily absent in early beta versions, estimates indicate they may have been redirected or are still under development.
AI chat pinning feature is coming
Alongside the bottom navigation bar changes, the code revealed that the company is working on a new feature allowing users to pin and unpin AI Mode chats. Clear script texts supporting individual and group pinning options appear in the code, allowing multiple chats to be selected at the same time and managed more efficiently compared to current options, which are limited to deletion, adding to notebooks, or sharing.
What does this development mean for users?
These changes reflect Google's desire to simplify the user experience by unifying personal account management capabilities in a single place that is easily accessible directly from the main bar, as well as improving the management of interactions with artificial intelligence tools. Since these discoveries are derived from code analysis of beta versions under development, the possibility of modifying these features or delaying their official release to users remains until the company announces them officially.
