In celebration of 25 years since the launch of the Xbox platform, Microsoft has unveiled a massive game bundle called 'X25', aimed at enhancing the digital game libraries of PC users. This bundle grants buyers of eligible Windows 11 devices 25 free games, with a total value exceeding $500, making it one of the most generous hardware-software-linked offers in recent times.
Game Bundle Details and Supported Platforms
The bundle includes a mix of classic games and modern AAA titles. Among the most notable games available are The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, as well as Minecraft Dungeons and Gears of War: Reloaded. The list also includes other titles such as Fallout 76, DOOM, and Quake.
Technically, the Xbox Play Anywhere feature plays a pivotal role in this bundle; it allows some games like Age of Empires II, Gears of War: Reloaded, and The Elder Scrolls Online to offer a seamless, synchronized gaming experience between PCs and Xbox consoles. Conversely, other major games like Call of Duty: WWII and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary do not support this feature, meaning the PC version and the console version are handled separately.
What Does This Offer Change Practically?
This announcement is not just a promotional offer; it reflects Microsoft's strategy to enhance integration between the Windows operating system and the Xbox platform. By linking the bundle to specific hardware requirements, the company seeks to drive the growth of the Windows-based gaming handheld market and solidify the relationship between PC users and the Xbox software ecosystem. Furthermore, the requirement for NVIDIA RTX Spark chips directly links advanced hardware performance with the gaming experience available through the bundle.
