Cyberattack Targets Russian Provider "Beget," Leading to Data Loss in Cloud and Kubernetes Systems

Beget, one of the most prominent hosting and cloud computing service providers in Russia, announced that its infrastructure was subjected to a large-scale cyberattack on the night of November 1, 2026. The attack resulted in the loss of critical data in cloud systems, prompting the company to initiate comprehensive recovery operations for the affected services.

Attack Details and Technical Damage

According to the statement issued by the company, the attackers managed to gain access to the central management systems and execute commands aimed at deliberately wiping data. The technical damage included data loss in several critical sectors, including:

  • Virtual Private Servers (VPS).
  • Cloud storage systems.
  • Kubernetes infrastructure.
  • Content Delivery Network (CDN) settings and IP addresses.

Despite the extent of the damage, Beget clarified that the majority of the data on the servers was preserved, and the company succeeded in restoring large portions of website file backups.

Recovery Efforts and Current Status

The company's technical teams are currently working on inspecting more than 1,000 servers individually to ensure data integrity and restart services. Regarding email infrastructure, the company reported that approximately 80% of its operational capacity has been restored, while no final deadline has been set for the return of all services to normal.

Regarding user privacy, the company confirmed there is no evidence suggesting customer data was stolen, though it issued a precautionary recommendation for all users to change their passwords and Access Keys immediately as a preventive measure.

Why This News Matters

This attack reveals the risks of targeting "central management systems" at cloud service providers; the threat here is not limited to data theft but extends to destruction or deletion, which represents an existential threat to digital business continuity. The attack also highlights the importance of securing Kubernetes environments and CDN settings, as the loss of these configurations can lead to a complete outage of digital services even if the original data remains intact.
