The small "enough" phone: An attempt to revive compact phones with Android 17 support and a replaceable battery

A new crowdfunding campaign has started on the Kickstarter platform aimed at providing a solution to the problem of massive smartphones currently dominating the market, through the "enough" phone. This new device seeks to target users who prefer compact phones that can be easily used with one hand, without sacrificing essential technical performance.

Balanced technical specifications for a small size

The "enough" phone comes equipped with a 5.3-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1520 × 720 pixels, which is considered very small by today's standards. To ensure stable performance while maintaining energy efficiency, the manufacturers relied on the Dimensity 7500 chip from MediaTek, which is a mid-range chip built on a 4-nanometer process. The phone also supports 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.

Regarding photography capabilities, the phone features a 50-megapixel main rear camera relying on the Sony IMX766 sensor, in addition to a 32-megapixel front camera. The device also supports modern connectivity technologies such as 5G, eSIM, and NFC, with a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button.

Sustainability and software experience

One of the most prominent technical features offered by the phone is the user-replaceable battery, which has a targeted capacity of 3,500 mAh. This step aims to extend the device's lifespan and reduce electronic waste, a trend lacking in most current flagship phones.

On the software side, the phone gives users two options: either running Android 17, or using OdysseyOS, which is a simplified system resembling the experience of traditional phones (dumbphones) for those looking to reduce digital distraction. The company promises to provide software updates for five years, meaning continuous support for the device until 2032.

What does this trend change in the phone market?

The "enough" phone represents an attempt to break the "massive phone" pattern that has become the prevailing standard. What matters technically here is not just the small size, but how to balance limited space with high technical requirements. Using a 4-nanometer chip and focusing on a replaceable battery addresses the two biggest challenges facing small phones: power consumption and rapid battery degradation.

However, questions remain as to whether the company will use silicon-carbon battery technology to increase capacity without increasing the physical size, something that has not been confirmed yet. Shipments are expected to begin in May 2027, with prices starting at $399 for early backers in the crowdfunding campaign, reaching a targeted final retail price of $599.
