Indications of generative AI app support
Software analysis conducted on the beta version of iOS 27.3 showed that Apple is working on laying the technical foundations to support chatbot apps on its new smart home device HomeView. Tech researcher known as pdfu detected the addition of a new category named "Conversational Apps" in the software managing the display of applications from iPhones or iPads connected to the device.
The software data also indicates technical preparations to support two-way audio routing, session management, and handling audio interruptions, although these features have not been fully activated yet. So far, Apple has not officially announced support for third-party apps like ChatGPT or Claude, and it remains unclear which apps will benefit from this category or when it will be released to users.
Security enhancements against identity spoofing
In a related context, code inspection revealed built-in security features in the HomeView system (version 27.2) aimed at preventing identity spoofing (Anti-Spoofing). This mechanism includes enforcing authentication via iPhone after three failed facial recognition attempts, before allowing access to the user's personal data.
Apple is also developing a "Lockout Cooldown" system to handle incorrect login attempts, similar to the system used in iPhones. After repeated attempts, escalating waiting periods are imposed starting from one hour and reaching up to eight hours in case of repeated errors, which enhances the protection of data privacy stored on the device.
What does this mean for users?
The HomeView device, scheduled for release on November 13 at a price of $299, comes as a home control center with a 7-inch screen and built-in artificial intelligence technologies (Siri AI). The presence of these codes indicates that Apple plans to make the device more flexible and expandable, as the device does not rely on an independent app store, but rather relies on displaying audio and video apps from connected devices in a manner similar to CarPlay.
These software updates are an important indicator of Apple's direction to make HomeView an interactive smart platform that goes beyond being merely a control screen, with a focus on privacy and security as a core pillar in handling personal data inside the home.
