Recent reports issued by supply chains revealed that Apple aims to significantly increase the production pace of its laptop MacBook Neo during 2027, reaching 16 million units, which is equivalent to double the quantity expected to be shipped during the current year 2026.
Context of Growth in Apple Device Sales
This trend comes following statements by Apple CEO John Ternus during the recent earnings call, where he indicated that the company achieved record sales in Mac devices during the 2026 fiscal year. Although Apple does not disclose sales figures broken down by model, analysts suggest that the MacBook Neo series was the main driver of this noticeable growth.
Expectations for the Second Generation MacBook Neo
Leaked reports indicate that Apple plans to launch the second generation of this computer in the first half of 2027. The device is expected to witness fundamental technical upgrades, most notably the transition to the A19 Pro chip and increasing random access memory (RAM) capacity to 12 GB, in addition to new color options. It is worth noting that the first version launched in March 2026 relied on the A18 Pro chip with 8 GB of memory.
What Does This Mean for Users?
This step is an indicator of Apple's strategy to integrate smartphone chip technologies into budget-class laptops. Despite Apple raising the base price of the device from $599 to $699 earlier this year, and reducing education discounts, demand remains strong. For users, the next generation represents an opportunity to obtain better performance thanks to increased random access memory, which may address criticisms directed at the first generation regarding multitasking, while Apple continues to rely on its unified chip architecture to enhance production efficiency.
