Google has begun rolling out a comprehensive update to its Antigravity platform, an Agentic Development Platform that operates on Mac, Windows, and Linux systems. The new version (2.29) includes core features aimed at enhancing automation and voice interaction capabilities, while shifting part of the operations to the cloud.
Remote Agents: Continuous Operation in the Cloud
The launch of the Remote Agents feature is the most significant development in this update, currently available to subscribers of the paid Google AI Pro and Ultra plans. This feature allows users to create cloud projects linked to GitHub repositories or Google Drive folders, enabling software agents to continue executing tasks within an isolated cloud environment even when the local device is closed. Developers can also monitor and control these processes via mobile through the dedicated website (antigravity.google.com/remote).
Voice Interaction and Interface Redesign
Google has added Voice Mode, powered by Gemini Live technology, allowing users to issue commands and requests to agents directly via voice. This mode offers various voice options and the ability to control speech speed from 0.75x to 2x.
Regarding user experience, the interface has undergone a comprehensive redesign to resemble the Gemini app; the prompt box has been moved to the bottom of the screen, and the Google Sans font and new Onyx theme have been adopted, providing a smoother and more consistent visual experience.
Technical Improvements and Developer Tools
The update also included a set of functional improvements, including:
- Automation Organization: Restructuring the automation page to include lists (scheduled, continuous, and paused) with detailed information about execution times.
- Integrated Browser Development: Improvements in download management, address bar suggestions based on browsing history, and providing clearer security indicators for connections.
- Performance: Improving cold start speed and adding smooth animations when opening side menus.
What Changes Practically for Developers?
This update represents a shift from mere local assistance tools to a semi-autonomous development environment. The ability of agents to work in the cloud means that long, resource-intensive programming tasks are no longer tied to keeping the user's device running or consuming its battery, opening the door to automating more complex and continuous processes without the need for constant human intervention, provided the user is subscribed to the paid tiers.
