Lucid Previews Its Upcoming "Cosmos" Electric Car at a Price Under $50,000

Lucid has published a new promotional clip showcasing the features of its upcoming electric car, likely the "Cosmos" model, a mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) that the company is betting on to be its gateway toward becoming a mass-production car manufacturer.

Futuristic Design and High Efficiency

The 94-second promotional clip shows fine details in the car's front and rear lighting, where the word "LUCID" stands out illuminated in red on the tailgate, along with a thin light bar and an integrated rear spoiler. These features match the designs registered by the company with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, as well as the prototypes spotted during testing in California.

The car is based on Lucid's new platform dedicated to mid-size vehicles, and the company aims to launch it at a price starting under $50,000, which represents approximately half the price of the "Gravity" model. The company claims the car will provide a range of up to 300 miles thanks to a 69 kWh battery pack, with energy efficiency reaching 4.5 miles per kWh—figures that place it in direct competition with models such as the Tesla Model Y and Rivian R2.

Why Does This News Matter?

The "Cosmos" is considered the cornerstone of Lucid's future strategy; the company is currently suffering from low delivery numbers and high operating costs at its Arizona factory. By offering a car with this price and specifications, Lucid seeks to expand its fan base and compete in the most in-demand electric vehicle category.

Timeline Challenges

Despite the impressive technical expectations, Lucid faces challenges related to timing. CEO Silvio Napoli announced a delay in the production date from late 2026 to the second half of 2027. This delay puts the company in a race against time, especially with the limited cash liquidity that the company stated would suffice until mid-2027, raising questions about the company's ability to finance the mass production process until the car reaches consumers' hands.
