Vodafone Egypt has begun commercial use of the Ericsson RAN Processor 6672, designed to run artificial intelligence workloads and support 5G networks directly at network sites. Ericsson says the processor increases processing capacity fourfold and reduces energy consumption by more than 50% compared with the previous generation.
Ericsson expects mobile network data traffic to increase 2.2 times between 2025 and 2031, while additional uplink data traffic generated by artificial intelligence applications could increase by up to five times. The report says that the expansion of 5G and FWA will require fundamental updates to network design, rather than merely expanding coverage.
