South Korea has announced the “Korean Green Transformation” strategy, involving investments of approximately $750 billion over ten years, along with the addition of 100 GW of renewable energy and the expansion of transmission networks. The plan includes developing green steel, electric vehicles, batteries, and tandem solar cells.
The analysis argues that energy security does not require retreating into self-sufficiency, but rather building more diversified interdependence through multiple electricity links, particularly using HVDC technology. However, these links do not automatically deliver security; they remain exposed to concentration risks, cable failures, and bottlenecks in local grids.
