On June 8, 2026, Apple introduced its new Siri AI assistant, a completely redesigned version powered by Apple Intelligence to provide more natural conversations, personal context understanding, broad knowledge of information available on the web, and the ability to understand content displayed on the user’s screen. The company says the new features help users find information and complete tasks across apps and products in a more integrated way.
Siri AI capabilities are available for developer testing starting today, while they will reach users as a beta later in 2026. The announcement did not specify a final date for public availability.
Understanding context and completing tasks across apps
Siri AI uses personal context understanding to access information found in messages, email, photos, and more. According to examples shown by Apple, users can ask it to find a restaurant recommendation that a friend sent in a message, extract a hotel booking confirmation number from an old email, or display photos from a recent trip with friends and family.
This understanding extends to third-party apps when developers integrate their apps with Spotlight. The assistant can also perform system-level actions, such as creating an email message from scratch or editing and sharing a group of photos.
With awareness of screen content, Siri AI can answer questions related to what the user sees. For example, when a message arrives about a gathering with friends, the user can discuss what to bring with the assistant and then add a recipe to the Notes app. Most Siri responses can also be extended into a rich conversation that includes follow-up questions.
Broader knowledge and integration across Apple devices
Siri AI also draws on broad world knowledge to obtain up-to-date information from the web on a variety of topics, such as when and where to watch the next solar eclipse or when a musician will arrive in a particular city.
The assistant can be activated on iPhone by saying “Hey Siri,” using the side button, or swiping down from Dynamic Island to start a conversation and receive an in-depth answer. On iPad and Mac, Siri AI integrates with Spotlight and also appears in system-wide contextual menus, allowing users to Control-click to ask questions about photos, files, or text displayed on the screen.
On Apple Vision Pro, Siri AI uses spatial computing through a three-dimensional representation that can be placed anywhere within the user’s space, with the ability to activate it simply by looking at it and speaking. It is also available through iPhone, Apple Watch, CarPlay, and AirPods. Apple Watch users can start a conversation from their wrist or receive a new suggestion in Smart Stack to continue a previous conversation.
New architecture and processing privacy
Apple rebuilt Siri from the ground up using a new artificial intelligence architecture, including the next generation of Apple Foundation Models that run on-device and on servers using Private Cloud Compute. The company says that when requests are processed through Private Cloud Compute, the user’s personal data is not stored or made available to Apple or any other party, while independent experts can continue to verify this commitment to privacy.
Siri AI also uses the system orchestrator to access core capabilities such as the Spotlight index and App Toolbox. These capabilities operate entirely on-device to keep the user’s data under their control.
Improved voice, dictation, and a dedicated app
On products that support Apple’s advanced on-device model, Siri AI provides more expressive voices, with the ability to customize the assistant’s level of expressiveness and speaking speed. It also improves system-wide dictation by converting the user’s speech into more accurately formatted text, automatically handling capitalization, punctuation, and formatting while the user speaks.
Apple is also introducing a dedicated Siri app that lets users start a new conversation or return to previous conversations. The app uses iCloud to privately synchronize conversation history across the user’s devices, but the text available from the announcement ends while describing this feature, so details about completion and availability require review when additional information is published.
