Pricing and Kubernetes Version Support
AKS is available across multiple pricing tiers. The Free tier enables experimentation and development while charging only for the underlying resources, whereas the Standard tier targets production workloads and provides a guaranteed service-level agreement, a scalable Kubernetes control plane, and higher limits on the number of nodes in the cluster. The Premium tier targets workloads that require long-term support and extended version stability.
AKS relies on releases and patches from the Kubernetes project, which supports a moving window of three minor releases. The Free and Standard tiers provide full support only during those releases' service period, while the Premium tier provides a long-term support release of Kubernetes for two years, according to the information published on the service page.
