Cloudflare announced that Gartner named it the only vendor classified as a “Visionary” in its 2026 reports on Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) platforms and Security Service Edge (SSE). Gartner published the Magic Quadrant for SASE Platforms on July 28, 2026, followed by the Magic Quadrant for SSE on July 29, 2026.
Cloudflare said that, in its view, the assessment confirms the architectural choices it made in the Cloudflare One platform and reflects customers’ confidence in the company’s ability to address an increasingly complex security landscape. The company noted that customers who shared feedback with Gartner or discussed roadmap challenges with its team contributed to achieving this recognition.
A Market Changing Under Pressure from AI
Cloudflare believes that the SASE and SSE markets are undergoing a period of transformation. Many organizations began using SSE as the security component of SASE to address remote-work challenges during the pandemic, while SASE gained greater importance as office-based work policies returned. The company says that AI agents, threats associated with the post-quantum era, and the proliferation of unmanaged applications are creating a need for platforms that can adapt quickly.
The company criticizes what it describes as the fragmentation of SASE architectures assembled from multiple products, arguing that this can complicate deployments and create security gaps. In contrast, Cloudflare offers a “connectivity cloud” approach based on a single global network to connect and protect users, AI agents, and infrastructure.
Managing AI Agents and Post-Quantum Encryption
According to Cloudflare, market solutions have focused heavily on securing user prompts in generative AI tools, while AI agents have remained less governed. The company says its platform enables agents and users to be managed through unified policies, and also supports integration with AI Gateway to set inference-cost limits for each user, team, or application.
Cloudflare also says it has deployed post-quantum encryption across the key connection points within its platform to address “harvest now, decrypt later” attacks. It also announced a goal of delivering a fully quantum-safe SASE platform, including post-quantum authentication, by 2028, noting that this goal comes ahead of a mandate from the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which the company identified as 2030.
A Unified and Programmable Platform
Cloudflare says its platform was designed from the outset on a unified basis, rather than by integrating disparate technologies through acquisitions or separate products. It believes this design helps organizations implement new use cases in days or weeks instead of months or years, while also reducing the need for capacity planning across isolated products or routing traffic through multiple inspection points.
The company says that integrating Cloudflare Workers with the SASE suite enables customers to add custom code to access decisions and route traffic based on signals from internal tools or specific application contexts. According to Cloudflare, this gives organizations the flexibility to address specialized cases without waiting for separate features to be developed for each one.
Cloudflare affirmed that Gartner’s classification represents an important milestone, but said its next focus will be on continuing to develop the platform based on customer feedback.
