RayNeo Innovation launched the RayNeo iO series on August 21, targeting artificial intelligence applications, and IT之家 tested it for a period of time. The glasses are centered on making a smart assistant present in everyday life without looking like a bulky electronic device, with a particular focus on the “all-day smart memory” function, which captures important information and reorganizes it for the user.
Lightweight design and a display closer to traditional glasses
RayNeo iO weighs approximately 34 grams and uses a magnesium-aluminum alloy structure in the front frame, while the middle section of the temples is made of β Ti 15333 and TC4 titanium. The company says the thinnest part of the temple is 1.15 mm, with the components distributed at both ends of the temples to achieve better balance while being worn.
The glasses use the Firefly Nano display engine, measuring 0.085 cubic centimeters, with a Blue Lake waveguide less than 0.6 mm thick and weighing 3 grams. The transmittance of the display area is 93%, while the transmittance of the non-display areas exceeds 98%. Therefore, according to the test, the lenses look closer to ordinary prescription lenses whether the display is on or off. The display provides the equivalent of 33 inches and brightness of up to 1,800 nits, with operation through the RayNeo AI Glasses app on the phone.
The glasses are available in Extreme Night and Dune, and the right temple includes a Smart Crown dial for controlling the display and applications. They also support head gestures, such as nodding or shaking the head, and allow the display to be awakened by raising the head. They come with replaceable nose pads and silicone temple covers, in addition to a 2,000 mAh charging case that can fully charge the glasses five times.
All-day smart memory
RayNeo says the “all-day smart memory” function operates with low power consumption, continuously captures audio, converts it into text, recognizes important information, and summarizes it. During the test, the glasses captured an appointment to complete an article before August 14, then displayed a reminder about it approximately two hours later and asked whether it should be converted into a task. About a day later, the task was automatically added to the task list.
The glasses also recorded an appointment to go to the pharmacy on August 20 and provided, through the app, a summary of the day’s content, extracting appointments, tasks, and topics mentioned during conversations. The “Journal” section allows users to review activity details by time period, while the built-in assistant can retrieve previous conversations and answer questions about what was said in them.
Translation, autocue, and recording transcription
Real-time translation uses the BabelOS 3.0 engine from technology partner Timekettle and supports 55 languages and 109 dialects, according to the company. During the test, translations of English conversations appeared on the display within approximately one second, with performance continuing during recordings that included ambient noise.
The autocue recognizes speech through a bone-conduction sensor and changes the color of the spoken text, then automatically advances to the next line. For recordings, the glasses combine a bone-conduction microphone with four air-conduction microphones and a beamforming algorithm to distinguish between speakers. The app can produce transcripts, summaries, key points, and even mind maps, with customized templates for interviews.
Privacy and practical limitations
RayNeo says that audio data is locally anonymized before being sent to the cloud, with TLS 1.3 used during transmission and AES-256 used for storage, and that sensitive data processing takes place on the device by default and is not synchronized with the private cloud without the user’s consent. It also says that its information security management system has received ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certification, with support for GDPR, CE, and FCC requirements. These points remain statements from the company and were not the result of an independent audit as part of the test.
In a test that ran from 10:44 a.m. to 11:46 p.m., with all-day memory activated and recording and translation in use, the battery decreased by 24%, indicating that it could operate for approximately two days according to the usage pattern tested by the site. On the other hand, RayNeo iO does not include a camera or offer optical multimodal interaction, and its AI functions depend on a connection to the phone app. In practice, the glasses appear closer to a lightweight audio and visual assistant for tasks, memory, and translation than to an independent computing device; this makes them particularly suitable for meetings, interviews, and multilingual communication, while dependence on the phone remains a fundamental limitation.
