Swvl Raises $13 Million Led by Coefficient to Accelerate Its U.S. Expansion

Swvl Holdings Corp, listed on the Nasdaq under the symbol SWVL, announced a strategic investment agreement worth $13 million in a round led by U.S.-based Coefficient LP, which is backed by the Sawiris family. The company plans to direct the investment proceeds toward accelerating its expansion in the United States, where it recently began operations.

Coefficient will invest approximately $10 million, while an existing Swvl shareholder will contribute an additional $3 million. Under the agreement, Swvl will issue 8.99 million Class A shares at $1.446 per share, with the transaction scheduled to close on August 27, 2026, subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions.

Following completion of the transaction, Coefficient is expected to become Swvl’s largest institutional shareholder. Abdullah Ali, the investment firm’s founder and managing partner, will also join Swvl’s board of directors. According to the announcement, this adds investment and strategic expertise to the board at a stage when the company is focusing on the U.S. market.

Operating Performance Supports the Round

The transaction comes as Swvl reported 68% year-over-year revenue growth in the first quarter of 2026, reaching $8.2 million. Revenue in the Gulf Cooperation Council region also rose 111%, while recurring revenue accounted for 88% of total revenue.

The company recorded a net revenue retention rate of 114%, while dollar-linked revenue increased to 44% of the total. Swvl reduced its operating expenses to 23% of revenue, which the company presented as an indication that it is approaching operating break-even.

What Will Swvl Actually Fund?

The company intends to use the net proceeds from the round across three main areas: supporting its expansion in the United States, launching lending services for transport companies and partners within its network, and strengthening its financial position to support its portfolio of multi-year contracts with enterprises and government entities.

Mostafa Kandil, Swvl’s founder and chief executive officer, said the investment supports a new phase of the company’s growth, noting that its enterprise-first model had achieved revenue growth while keeping operating expenses at 23% of revenue.

For his part, Ansi Sawiris said the family continues to support entrepreneurs capable of building and growing companies over the long term. Abdullah Ali described Swvl as working to transform passenger transportation into smart, AI-enabled infrastructure managed through operational coordination technologies.

Why Does This Matter?

The round’s significance goes beyond providing new funding; it connects Swvl’s U.S. expansion with an investor that will become its largest institutional shareholder, with direct representation on the board. The plan for using the funds also reveals a shift in focus from operating transportation services to building a broader ecosystem encompassing financing and the management of enterprise and government contracts.

However, the transaction has not yet been completed, as it remains tied to the expected closing on August 27, 2026, and the satisfaction of customary conditions. Likewise, the growth and operating indicators included in the announcement describe the company’s performance as presented by Swvl and do not, on their own, establish the success of its U.S. expansion or that it has actually achieved operating break-even.
