Huawei has launched its new Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design phone in China, the third model in its tri-folding phone series after the Mate XT Ultimate Design in 2024 and the Mate XTs Ultimate Design in 2025. A Different Folding Mechanism with a Practical Trade-Off
When the phone is fully closed, the external screen on the rear is the screen available for use, while the new folding mechanism fully protects the main screen. However, this design eliminates the ability to use the phone in a partially folded mode that provides a medium-sized screen of approximately 8 inches; use is limited either to the external screen or to the large main screen when the device is fully opened.
The phone is approximately 3.5 mm thick when fully opened and increases to 12.3 mm when folded. It is 157.2 mm tall, while its width is 77 mm when folded and 219.2 mm when opened, with a weight of 299 grams. For photography, the device features a 50-megapixel main camera with a variable aperture between f/1.49 and f/4.0, optical stabilization, and a 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor. The phone runs HarmonyOS 7.0 and includes a 5600 mAh battery with 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. It carries IP58 and IP59 ratings for water and dust resistance and supports eSIM, Bluetooth 6.0, and satellite calling.
The Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design starts at 20,000 Chinese yuan, or approximately $3,000, for the version with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, with the price increasing according to capacity. Huawei announced the device only in China and has not disclosed a specific date for its global launch.
