Meta announced Ray-Ban Meta Audio at its Connect conference, the company’s first audio glasses, and also unveiled the third generation of Ray-Ban Meta and expanded the Meta Glasses collection in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica. The company says it will offer more than 100 eyewear options across Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Meta Glasses before the end of the year.
Ray-Ban Meta Audio Combines Sound with a Smart Assistant
Ray-Ban Meta Audio weighs approximately 43 grams and supports listening to music and podcasts, making calls, and speaking with the Meta AI assistant hands-free. Battery life reaches up to 12 hours on a single charge, with up to an additional 48 hours through the included charging case.
The glasses use adjustable temples fitted by an optician, interchangeable or adjustable nose pads, and hinges that allow a wider opening angle. They will be available in 23 color and lens combinations in the Clubmaster and Burbank models, with support for a wide range of prescription lenses. Pre-orders start at $349, with shipping beginning on October 13.
The Third Generation Focuses on Battery Life and Content Capture
Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) features a thinner design and battery life of up to nine hours, an increase of one hour compared with the second generation, as well as a customizable action button for quick access to Meta AI. The glasses offer 27 color and lens combinations across three designs: Aviator, Zena, and Wayfarer, along with a limited-edition Aviator celebrating the 90th anniversary of the launch of this model.
The specifications include a 12-megapixel camera and 3K Ultra HD video recording, along with the Dynamic Photos feature, which allows users to choose the best frame for a photo. The glasses also use an array of six microphones that Meta says reduces background noise by more than 90%, while the built-in LED remains a way to alert people nearby when photos are being taken or video is being recorded. The third generation starts at $449 and is available according to the announcement.
Meta also plans to later enable spatial-audio video recording and playback with 360-degree sound and Dolby Atmos through its glasses, but it did not specify an exact date in the text, indicating only that the feature will arrive later in the year.
Expansion of the Meta Glasses Collection and Markets
The company added the Capri and Nova models to Meta Glasses and introduced an Ivory-colored edition of Meta Glasses by Kylie Jenner, with prices starting at $399. It also unveiled a collection designed in collaboration with LISA, comprising the Meta Adventurer LISA Edition and Meta Capri LISA Edition, each starting at $399 and supporting prescription lenses.
Meta Adventurer is offered with a black frame, gray lenses, and a connectable case, at a starting price of $249, making it the least expensive Meta Glasses product according to the company’s announcement. Pre-orders are available through Meta.com, and sales begin on October 23 in countries where Meta Glasses are sold.
What Changes in Practice?
The announcement is not limited to adding new designs; Meta is pushing the glasses toward the role of an everyday device that combines audio, a smart assistant, photography, translation, and interaction with applications. However, most promises related to software updates, the Muse personal assistant, and spatial audio depend on the availability of the features later and on market and language support, points that the announcement did not detail.
The geographic expansion will begin in Singapore, South Korea, Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates, with an upcoming arrival in Brazil. Meta also mentioned markets where Oakley Meta, Ray-Ban Meta, and Ray-Ban Meta Optics products will become available later this year, including Turkey, Poland, Portugal, Israel, South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
