Microsoft released the cumulative updates KB5127648 and KB5126653 for Windows 11 as part of the October 2026 Patch Tuesday updates. The package covers versions 26H2, 25H2, and 24H2, while KB5126653 targets version 23H2. The new updates are based on the 24H2 codebase and share the same fixes across the newer versions.
The updates are mandatory because they include the monthly security patches addressing hundreds of vulnerabilities discovered during the previous months. They can be installed through Windows Update by going to Settings, then Windows Update, and selecting Check for Updates, or downloaded manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
Daily Usability Improvements
File Explorer receives changes to file previews. The Preview anyway button allows HTML files to be previewed after acknowledging the warning, while non-HTML files, such as PDFs, are displayed automatically. The Home section also now retains the state of open or collapsed sections, while thumbnail previews for cloud files and the organization of property information have been improved.
The update adds support for Emoji 17.0, along with design improvements to several existing symbols. Microsoft is also introducing the Tips tool as a widget that can be added to the Widgets board or lock screen, as well as a setting called Open apps maximized that automatically opens apps maximized within the accessibility settings.
Bluetooth and Accessibility
The package includes multiple Bluetooth fixes and improvements, including displaying the volume level during calls, improving the accuracy of the connection status, and increasing the stability of the Bluetooth & devices settings page. It also addresses an issue that could cause the system to crash with error code 0x139 during audio streaming, while improving microphone compatibility and the performance of LE Audio and shared-audio accessories.
The Magnifier tool receives a visually updated taskbar, with icons and spacing that more closely match the Windows 11 design, without changing the behavior of the magnification tools, shortcuts, or the Read Aloud feature.
What Changes in Practice?
Microsoft is also adding new gestures to precision touchpads, such as one-finger swiping from the sides of the pad and automatic scrolling near the edge. Users can remap the Copilot key to function as the Right Ctrl or Context Menu key. Eligible users can also back up photos from Camera roll to OneDrive through a setting within the system and a QR code for the phone.
Other changes include support for the Garay and Beria Erfe scripts in the Ebrima font, the addition of a remote management component for the Windows Recovery environment through MDM providers, and the disabling of specific shortcuts in kiosk modes. Conversely, the PC-to-PC Migration feature is no longer available, and Microsoft recommends using Windows Backup to transfer files and settings.
Microsoft is not aware of any new issues associated with this month’s update, but it noted that a limited audio issue may persist on some devices using USB 1.0 audio devices. The release therefore combines a mandatory security priority with broad improvements to the system experience, while verifying the compatibility of audio accessories remains an important step before deploying it in environments that use these devices.
