Electrify America has announced the launch of its largest charging station to date, located at the Sand Lake Corners South shopping center in Orlando, Florida. The new station features 24 DC fast chargers, with each charger capable of delivering up to 350 kW.
Strengthening Infrastructure in a Major Tourist Destination
The choice of the Orlando location is strategic due to its proximity to vital hubs such as Orlando International Airport, world-class entertainment destinations like Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, and its location near Interstate 4. This large capacity aims to accommodate increasing traffic from both local residents and the high volume of tourists visiting the area.
Why This News Matters
Florida is considered a key market for electric vehicles in the United States, ranking second only to California in the number of registered electric vehicles by 2025, which reached approximately 450,400 vehicles according to data from the U.S. Department of Energy. This station contributes to bridging the gap in charging infrastructure in high-density areas.
Technical Details and Future Expansion
The current station relies solely on Combined Charging System (CCS) plugs. However, the company notes that it has begun testing North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors at other selected locations, such as its site at the Florida Mall. Users can check the availability of connector types via the Electrify America app.
The company currently operates more than 350 chargers distributed across more than 60 stations throughout Florida, with plans to open additional sites in the coming months, including a new location on Curry Ford Road in Orlando, which is expected to add 10 additional chargers to the network.
