A Technological Leap in Charging Speed
BYD has revealed the second-generation of its bestselling small electric vehicle, the Seagull, achieving a technological breakthrough in charging speed thanks to the integration of the new Flash Charging technology. This technology, paired with the Blade Battery 2.0, allows the car to charge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes, while charging up to 97% takes nine minutes, with stable performance in low temperatures taking 12 minutes for a similar charge in environments reaching -30 degrees Celsius.
Performance and Design Upgrades
The new generation has undergone fundamental changes in architectural structure, shifting from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive, while offering more powerful motor options with a capacity of 85 kW (114 hp) or 95 kW (127 hp). The rear suspension system has also been upgraded to an independent multi-link system to improve ride quality, and the vehicle's dimensions have been increased to provide a larger space accommodating five passengers.
Artificial Intelligence and Driving Systems
In terms of interior technology, BYD equipped the car with the DiLink 150 intelligent cockpit and a 15.6-inch central entertainment screen. For the first time in this segment, the company made available the option of the DiPilot 300 system powered by God’s Eye B technology, which relies on roof-mounted LiDAR sensors to provide advanced autonomous driving features such as in-city navigation and smart parking.
What Does This Development Mean for Users?
This launch represents a new challenge in the low-cost electric vehicle market, combining a competitive price (starting at around $9,500 USD) with technologies previously exclusive to luxury cars. The ability to charge in 5 minutes addresses one of the biggest barriers to electric vehicle adoption, which is waiting time at charging stations, making the Seagull a more practical choice for intensive daily use.
