The startup Mach9 announced that it has raised $34 million in a Series A funding round jointly led by First Round Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from both Prudence and Quiet Capital. This announcement follows a major strategic pivot for the company, which was founded by Alex Bikovitz in 2021 under the name Mach9 Robotics.
The company began its journey with the goal of developing better, faster, and cheaper civil engineering surveying hardware, but practical experience proved that the real bottleneck lies not in the hardware, but in how to process the massive amounts of laser scanner data and convert them into actionable maps and engineering surveys.
The Pivot Toward Architecture and Engineering Design Software
This realization prompted the founder to drop the word "Robotics" from the company name and shift entirely toward developing AI-backed computer-aided design (CAD) software. This direction has successfully attracted nearly 100 private beta customers, which have been used in over 2,500 projects to date.
Bikovitz explained that traditional CAD software developed by major companies like Autodesk and Bentley Systems takes weeks to deliver projects, at a rate of approximately one week per manually executed engineering mile. In contrast, Mach9 relies on internally developed AI models to achieve centimeter-level accuracy, allowing the conversion of images and laser scanning datasets into survey-grade engineering with high precision.
Why This News Matters
This funding represents a clear indicator of the rising investment interest in infrastructure engineering and construction automation technologies, a sector suffering from slow procedures and high human costs. By producing an AI-driven initial draft, the company provides engineers with tools to draw, evaluate, and make adjustments while maintaining professional and licensed review accountability.
- Funding Round Size: $34 million in Series A.
- Lead Investors: First Round Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners.
- Usage Scale: Nearly 100 beta customers and over 2,500 projects.
The company intends to direct the new funds toward improving its software product, hiring more industry experts, and expanding its enterprise operations to keep pace with the growing market demand.
