Tencent and Spyke Games Discuss the Impact of AI in the Gaming Sector: From Production Speed to Sustainable Value

The Webrazzi Summit 2026 hosted a panel discussion titled "Beyond the AI Hype: From Models to Market Value," where Tencent and Spyke Games reviewed the transformations imposed by artificial intelligence on product development and the electronic gaming industry, shedding light on new challenges in achieving a true product-market fit.

Economic Challenges and Ease of Production

Dr. Min Ho, Investment Director at Tencent, pointed out that artificial intelligence has succeeded in facilitating product development and programming processes, but in return, it has made achieving product-market fit more difficult. He explained that the massive number of products launched in the market competes with the consumer's fixed time and attention, meaning that technical success is no longer sufficient on its own to turn a product into a sustainable commercial venture.

Along the same lines, Rina Onur Şenoğlu, Co-founder and CEO of Spyke Games, emphasized that the role of engineers has fundamentally changed; a single person can now execute prototypes in a few hours, processes that previously required teams of ten individuals and many months of work. She explained that today's engineer focuses on integrating AI models, tools, and agents to build workflows rather than writing every line of code manually.

What is Changing Practically?

Investment and operational companies are focusing on several key pillars amid this rapid technological transition:

  • The Importance of Distribution and Marketing: Despite falling production costs and enabling small studios to technically compete with major entities, financial distribution capabilities and large marketing budgets remain the domain of major players to attract users and ensure continuity.
  • Evolution of Hiring Models: Companies like Spyke Games are moving toward hiring talent with high problem-solving and thinking capabilities alongside technical skills, especially with the company's reliance on AI-generated level systems trained on player behaviors since 2023.
  • Tencent's Investment Criteria: Tencent looks for founders who combine technical competency with long-term thinking, focusing on solving real user problems and proving commercial adoption rather than merely focusing on the short-term performance of AI models.

Investment in the Turkish Market and Future Prospects

The session also addressed Tencent's investments in Turkey, particularly leading funding rounds for companies like Circle Games and Flow Games. Min Ho praised Turkish engineering talent and the ability of entrepreneurs to think globally and use capital with high efficiency by validating customer demand before expanding spending. For her part, Rina Onur Şenoğlu viewed that the discipline and resilience gained in Turkey's mobile gaming sector can pave the way for the emergence of other tech companies capable of leaving a global mark.

On a broader scale, Tencent noted that the next fields most impacted by AI could include scientific discoveries, life sciences, energy, and quantum computing, accelerating research that previously took entire decades.
